Using a site like tinyurl.com can be a priceless tool.  It can free up a few characters when linking sites in Twitter.com (follow me on twitter) or Facebook.com (my facebook site). This is the best way to link any type of site that you are trying to share on your Social Networking websites as mentioned above.  I know, I know you are probably thinking “If I use a service like this and it shortens my URL, won’t that hurt me in search engine rankings?” Not at all.  Say you wan to post something in twitter like:

Hey guys I wrote a new blog on XTELWEB about updating your internet browsers, check out the post at : http://tinyurl.com/244fgz5

so

This lets people visit your original site, say something like this: https://codebeastmode.com/2010/04/21/how-to-update-your-internet-browser/

I saved a total of 54 characters just by using TinyURL.com.  Plus its easy, you don’t have to sign up for anything, and you can enter the same site and make new “TinyURLs” for any page without having to remember each tinyurl that you created!  Those 54 characters, especially on a site like twitter which only gives you 140 characters could be used for something good! Like another URL.

So remember, the next time you need to post a really long link in your twitter or facebook status page, use www.TinyURL.com it will save your characters 🙂
