This was an unexpectedly funny scene. My wife, Tina, had just left the house about 30 minutes prior to pick up pizza and chicken wings we ordered from Hungry Howies. She was gone for roughly thirty minutes. On her way home, she spotted something from a distance: water shooting high into the air! As she approached closer, she noticed that New Port Richey Sheriff’s Officers and New Port Richey Fire Services were already on the scene of what appeared to be a serious accident. Police officers and firefighters stood in the middle of the road, trying to determine what happened. Another officer escorted the couple aside, interviewing them to get to the bottom of this fiasco. In total, two sheriff’s cruisers, a state trooper, and a fire truck blocked the center of the road.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words? This scene is priceless. You can barely make out the couple’s late-model forest green Pontiac Grand AM in the video below. It appears the New Port Richey couple lost control and swerved directly into a fire hydrant. Tina left the scene and rushed home, telling me, ‘Babe, you have to go see what happened. There’s a bunch of police and firefighters talking to people who, I guess, hit a fire hydrant—and the water is shooting up past the trees!’ I love these moments, and Tina knows it. She had the keys and my sandals ready immediately. I almost left without my camera, but I grabbed it and captured incredible shots and smooth video footage.
At first, I didn’t spot the green Pontiac Grand AM sitting in the grass next to a leaking fire hydrant spewing water. The water was so thick and abundant that it nearly drowned out the car. A convenience store stood nearby, and a crowd of New Port Richey residents watched in awe. As I walked closer for a better shot, an onlooker yelled, ‘I bet I’ll see this on YouTube tonight!’ He was right. Without further ado, here is the video:
